An Update from The Felixstowe League of Friends

The Felixstowe League of Friends has been around for approximately the last 60 years and was formed to support the local hospital staff and patients by fundraising for the things that make life a little easier. As well as that, the Felixstowe League of Friends look after the gardens and help out where they can with the staff and patient welfare.

We are delighted to welcome these kind-hearted folks to The Felixstowe App, with their new regular blogs… to kick it off, here’s April’s article...

What a busy couple of months this has been starting with a good old tidying up of the patient's garden at the hospital, with our heartfelt thanks to Homebase for kindly giving us a discount on our new plants. The garden is certainly blooming.

Meanwhile, local artist Nigel Wallace's artwork has been acquired along with some bright crockery to bring a touch of light to the hospital staff room. His creations not only add aesthetic value but also uplift the spirits of hardworking healthcare professionals, providing them with a pleasant environment to recharge.

At Harvest House, the Health and Well-Being Fair served as a hub for promoting health practices, offering attendees a wealth of resources to nurture their physical and mental wellness. We attended the day to promote the work that we do and gained a few new members.
In another corner of the community, volunteers gathered at Trinity Church Hall for the Pensioner Workshop led by Terese Coffey, imparting valuable knowledge to local Pensioners.

Finally on a beautiful sunny afternoon the Landguard Rotary Club were out to make local walkers and beachgoers cups of tea and to raise funds for the Felixstowe League of Friends. A hearty thank you to all our supporters. It means so much to us and the community.

The FOG group has also been around for quite a while situated in the grounds of the high school; it has always been primarily to support families who have pre-school children who have additional needs. With the changes that have been made within child care over the last few years we have expanded to meet the needs of our families and now offer a Theatre Group a toddler group for everyone and are looking into helping older children who need a safe space to come with activities such as:

  • Radio production in conjunction with Felixstowe Radio,
  • Life skills learning and
  • Stop motion animation.

We have just been redecorated thanks to the efforts of The Lofty Heights Skills Academy and are looking to further renovate and expand our reach.

See you next time!

Stevie
