Crafting a New Lease of Life, by Suzy Mason

Approximately 18 years ago I got the shock of my life when I was told that I had a heart condition, there was no cure but it could be controlled by medication.

After this diagnosis I spent a lot of my time, walking, thinking and considering how this would affect my life. One day on a brisk walk along the beach I pulled my mobile out of my pocket and started taking some photos of the beautiful nature that surrounded me, I came home and posted them on Facebook and after some lovely comments I realised I had a bit of a talent. From photography, my journey with crafting had begun, I went and bought myself a decent digital camera and made and sold mounted photographs and greetings cards on my own stall. This then brought me to meeting Sandra Meyrick, market manager of Felixstowe Country Markets. I joined their market and learnt some new skills from the other talented members. The market is held every Friday on Felixstowe Triangle and I now sell, pictures, cards, scarves, earrings and pyrography coasters.

Crafting has given me a new lease of life and I have made many new friends through attending different craft events and through meeting new customers at Country Markets who come to buy our crafts and homemade cakes. These wonderful craft markets are a great way to find inspiration to get your own creative juices flowing.

If you ever need a spark to give you a new lease of life, try to take in your surroundings by going for a walk or taking photos, painting or lcrafting” what you see. There’s something so therapeutic about observing the beauty around us.

Love,
Suzy
