Aw, That’s Our Gal! Local Poet, Sarah

We're so proud of this bean! Here's a little bit about our gal, Sarah, and how she found her passion to write poetry...

Hello, my name is Sarah Louise Cawdron. I'm 33 years old and soon to be 34. I have lived in Felixstowe all my life born and bred Suffolk girly. I have a little doggie who I adore. Since I was a little girl I have struggled with my hearing as I was diagnosed with a perforated ear drum in each ear so you can imagine how tough life was.  I am kinda shy young girly but you would not know it if you have ever met me.

Some people may know me from working about Felixstowe town in shops or in schools or have seen me at the shows at the Spa Pavilion where I've been on stage a few times over the years, with a few celebrities like the lovely Giovanni Pernice and Joe Pasquale. Or you might have even heard me on Felixstowe Radio.

I used to write poetry in school but did not think that I would be any good at it, until the year 2020 when the whole country was in lockdown. Who'd have thought that would have catalysed my return to poetry! In that time, I wrote a poem about fallen soldiers for Remembrance Day. It was all about a memorial I visited in Scotland in the January before all the covid stuff kicked off. It was a big year that year - I turned 30 years old and I don’t know why, but it really hit me visiting the war graves of the fallen soldiers. I didn’t know anyone of them but it really changed my life that day. It made me feel so humble to have the life I have now.

From then on, I haven’t looked back and continue to write poetry.

Poetry can be about anything - it can be how you feel or something you have read about or heard about. Since The Felixstowe App started to regularly publish my poems over the last few years, my passion for poetry has kept on involving. I have to thank my family and friends and The Felixstowe Magazine & App for publishing my poems for people to read. I hope I can inspire people to give it a try and I look forward to sharing more of my poems with you.

Love,

Sarah
