An Update from Young Karting Local, Euan Stephenson

You might remember the young local lad, Euan, who we wrote about in The Felixstowe Magazine this year. This karting champion has his eye set on the mountain - here he is with an update on is training and adventures.

The Kart Championship returned to Whilton Mill last weekend 2nd – 3rd March. With talented drivers from the Rotax class taking to the Northampton-based track to battle it out for the number 1 spot.

A challenging weekend with mixed weather conditions, the first round of the championship kicked off with practice on Friday before moving onto the first heats on Saturday, with the grand final on Sunday.

Saturday Qualifier was very difficult due to severe weather and the conditions constantly changing, we started the morning with frost on the track, soon moving to heavy rain and finishing with sleet. Although Euan managed to qualify P18 in very difficult conditions, he was still disappointed, but lessons learnt.

The Super Heats were split into two rounds, with Euan starting in P18 for both. However, not giving up without a fight, Euan gave an unrivalled performance to gain 7 places in Both Super Heats to Finish 11th overall, which would put him just outside the top ten for the final.

Heading into the grand finale at Whilton Mill, Euan was gridded 11th for the final. The small but ultra-competitive class still gave the thousands of live stream viewers at home a fantastic spectacle of the premier racing series, via Racing Live TV. Euan had a great start to the race and progressed through the pack into 7th and held this position for a large portion of the race, with 2 mins to go a slip at Christmas corner and Euan gave up 2 places. He settled back into 9th and started to chase 8th and 7th.

As the chequered flag waved for the final, Euan Stephenson crossed the line in 9th, which will earn him valuable points for the Championship.
