As I write this, Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day have just passed, and it was a profound honour to lead Felixstowe in our acts of Remembrance. The turnout at the morning Church Service and the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the War Memorial seemed larger than ever, and Armistice Day was made all the more poignant by the participation of our local schoolchildren laying “Poppies on the Promenade”. It was a privilege to also pay respects at the War Graves at Felixstowe Cemetery, including a visit to the graves of German service personnel with representatives from our twin town, Wesel. The loss of any life in war is tragic, and as we remember, our thoughts are with those affected by conflict worldwide.
Last month, we celebrated our annual Felixstowe in Flower Awards Ceremony at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club. Congratulations to all participants, especially the award winners, and a big thank you to the Town Council’s dedicated Grounds Maintenance Team, who worked tirelessly to make Felixstowe bloom over the summer. The Ordinary Council meeting on 6th November addressed a range of important topics, including the Town Council’s position on the North Felixstowe Garden Neighbourhood and parking proposals for the town. The Council is committed to working on matters that support the well-being and growth of our community.
With Christmas just around the corner, I’m excited to see the town centre lit up, thanks to the efforts of the Felixstowe Lions Club. The Mayor’s Civic Carol Service will take place on 19 December at 4:30 pm at Felixstowe Methodist Church on Orwell Road All are welcome so please do join me for this joyous event.
If you’re looking for a unique gift this season, why not consider the Mayor’s Charity Cookbook? Featuring recipes from favourite Felixstowe restaurants and cafés, this cookbook is a true community effort sponsored by Felixstowe BID. All proceeds will support my chosen charities, Breast Friends CIC and The Landguard Trust. At just £5, it’s the perfect stocking filler or Secret Santa gift! You can find copies at various shops around town and the Town Hall.
Wishing you a joyful festive season and a happy, peaceful New Year!
