'Class of 2023'

 Northgate Sixth Form

Photography Students

Photography students from Northgate Sixth Form present a collection of their work produced during their A Level course

13th-19th July

open daily 10am - 4pm

(early closing Wed. 1pm)

The students have worked through a number of photography, art and design techniques and processes to experiment with image making.
With access to fantastic facilities and expertise from staff, students create a personal body of work that realises their project's intentions. Their practice is informed by a wide and diverse range of sources leading to exciting and experimental outcomes.

We are lucky to have a huge darkroom onsite and the students are taught analogue techniques using both black and white and colour film. We explore many alternative processes too including cyanotypes, photograms, chemigrams, sunprints and lots more. Alongside this student’s access a professional photographic studio to learn lighting and styling for photo-shoots.

We use Photoshop software to develop their editing skills and we experiment with digital equipment to extend this practice such as scanners, experimental CMYK printing methods on the photocopier.
Students are encouraged to make links with their other A level subjects to support and overlap their learning and produce work that spans the curriculum, often making connections with Art, Graphic Design, English literature, Textiles and even Sciences.
