Millie’s Braving The Shave

Hi, my name is Millie and on the 28th of February I’m braving the shave in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. My dad was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer at the end of June 2022. He passed away on the 29th of August. My dad was my calm in the storm, my perspective... He made me feel safe - grazed knees, tummy aches, bad dreams, he was there. He was the first man to love me, to kiss me, to cuddle me. I have more memories than I do time to write them down. I think most of all I miss Friday nights when we would stay up late listening to his favourite songs. He would sing and I would dance - laughter filled the air around us. I never heard my father raise his voice, he was gentle, tender. I truly believe my dad would have done anything for me - this, however, was not something he could change.

Losing someone I loved so much was indescribably hard. But I know he wouldn't want me to rush through life just to meet him again, he would want me to live, to love and be loved. He would want me to be happy.

Grief is hard, but it's not the end. One day, you’ll start to feel happy you were able to experience their life with them, even just for a little while.
My dad meant so much to me, which is why I'm Braving the Shave in honour of his life. His 52 years.

Braving the Shave is important to me because it does make me feel brave. It makes me feel like I'm standing up to something I have no control over. Cancer takes millions of lives every year, and right now people like you and I can't change that statistic, but we can help make some of those peoples last moments comfortable, and allow them to sleep peacefully knowing their family will be looked after when they are gone - we can do this by by donating to charities like Macmillan. Going from having 15 inches of hair to less than 1 mm is bold and brave, and definitely nerve racking. It's a statement, a challenge.

Macmillan never got a chance to help my dad - it was all very fast. But I know they help so many families with so much, from financial aid and emotional support to Macmillan nurses helping cancer patients live comfortably in their homes.

Macmillan relies on donations, so I hope to raise £1000 to support them in all of the amazing things they do.

I'll see you all on the other side,

Millie x
