Dare to Dip’s Anniversary, by Sam Phillips

March 15th marks the 2nd anniversary of Dare to Dip, and on the 10th I was 18 months sober. If you do the math you will notice that I had a slight relapse at the beginning of my year-long challenge. I truly believe that the cold water and the community helped me get back on track a lot quicker than ever before.

I tried to get sober so many times before. But I was trying to do it alone. This time round I’ve found people on the same journey, this has been a game-changer for me.

Not everyday in recovery can be easy but having support and being a support to others is what can keep you going. My worst days in recovery are better than my best days in relapse.

On July the 12th I’m arranging a special dip at midday. I’ve invited people from the Sober community all around the UK to attend. We will be dipping by the Felixstowe Pier in the usual spot. I’m also looking to find a venue to go after where I will be asking a couple of people to talk about sobriety. Please message me on my instagram page for more details @dare_to_dip

The cold water is such a powerful tool for mental health, and our mental health effects everything we do. So we must do what we can to look after it. If you are reading this and you are at a point in life where you are struggling; struggling with anxiety and depression, or addiction - whatever it maybe - I’d like to challenge you to start your own Cold Water journey today. The challenge is two minutes of cold showers every morning for 30 days.

Setting ourselves challenges and completing them is so good for morale. And stepping out of our comfort zone is how we grow. After 30 days of cold showers, I think you will find a massive difference, which will give you some momentum to springboard off and get you back on track.
