A Bit about Pool Etiquette by The Unconfident Swimmer

Are you planning to enjoy a swim in a public pool? If so, it's important to remember the proper etiquette for swimming pool use. Not only will following swimming pool etiquette help ensure everyone’s safety and comfort, but it will also be appreciated by other swimmers.

Here are some of the most important tips to remember when swimming in a public pool:

- Respect Other Swimmers – Remember that there are other people sharing the pool with you. Be mindful of their space and don’t splash them or dive near them. Also, avoid excessive noise that could disturb other swimmers.
- Use Proper Hygiene – Always shower before entering the pool and use proper hygiene while swimming
- Practice Safe Swimming – Obey all safety rules at the pool, such as no running on the edges/floors, no diving in shallow water, and always use the designated lanes for swimming.
- Be Mindful of Your Belongings – Make sure to keep your belongings in a designated area or locker and don’t bring any glass objects into the pool.
- Don't Abuse Pool Equipment – Don’t mishandle pool equipment like kickboards or diving rings. Respect them and put them back in their proper place after use.
- Keep the Pool Clean – Always throw away any rubbish you may have
- It’s an obvious one but must be mentioned: never urinate or defecate in the pool… you will get banned.
- Follow instructions from pool staff – Obey the instructions from lifeguards and other pool staff. They are there to keep everyone safe, so it’s important to follow their instructions.
- Watch alcohol consumption: Drinking alcohol at the pool is not allowed in many public pools. If it is allowed, make sure to drink responsibly and don’t swim if you’ve been drinking.

By following these simple rules of etiquette, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone at the pool. Have fun and happy swimming!
