Felixstowe school to BE INSTRUMENTAL!

Felixstowe school music department have started 2023 in style by offering free instrumental lessons to pupils in year 7 and 8. The scheme, called ‘Be Instrumental!’ offers tuition, supervised practice sessions, Concert Band sessions and an instrument, all free of charge for six months. New Head of Music, Emma Kent, has been thrilled by the take up ‘the scheme has quickly filled up and even though we’re only a few weeks in the students are working hard and already producing a great sound!’

The music department is keen to increase practical music making opportunities for the students, and in collaboration with Suffolk County Music Service has significantly increased its provision of instruments and ensembles within the school. There’s a new Concert Band named after the fort in the town, and the Landguard Band are already working towards their first concert in late March.

This pilot scheme is just the beginning though, with plans afoot to increase the provision from September. Anyone interested in supporting the music department is encouraged to make contact - ‘We’re interested in furnishing the department with pianos and instruments as well as expanding the tuition provision and providing external experiences for the students’
